PRIVACY POLICY

OVERVIEW

QuestLog is a personal journaling app. Your data stays on your device and in your personal iCloud account. We do not operate analytics or advertising systems, sell your personal information, or receive copies of your journal entries. QuestLog does not contain third-party advertising, analytics, tracking, or remote GIF-search services. Limited data is sent to service providers only when needed for features you choose to use, as described below.

DATA WE ACCESS

LOCATION

QuestLog uses your location to attach weather and place context to your journal entries. Location data is stored locally on your device and in your personal iCloud account. It is never transmitted to our servers.

CAMERA & PHOTOS

QuestLog lets you capture a photo or select photos and animated GIFs using Apple's system Photos picker. The app receives only the items you explicitly select; it does not request broad access to your photo library. Attachments are stored locally on your device and, if iCloud sync is enabled, in your personal iCloud account. They are never uploaded to or accessed by our servers.

FACE ID / BIOMETRICS

QuestLog offers an optional biometric lock to keep your journal private. Face ID authentication is handled entirely by iOS. We never access or store your biometric data.

NOTIFICATIONS

QuestLog can send optional daily reminders and optional "On This Day" reminders. You can enable or disable these in QuestLog's Control Panel or revoke notification permission in the iOS Settings app.

ICLOUD SYNC

If you enable QuestLog's iCloud sync, your entries, attachments, app settings, and custom themes sync to your personal iCloud account via Apple's infrastructure. QuestLog's developer cannot access that private iCloud container. You can pause sync or delete QuestLog's iCloud copy from Control Panel > iCloud Backup. Apple's handling of iCloud data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

APPLE SERVICES

When you request local weather, QuestLog sends latitude, longitude, and the ordinary network information required for an internet request, such as an IP address, to Apple Weather through WeatherKit. QuestLog does not add your name, email address, journal text, attachments, or a persistent QuestLog user identifier to that request. Apple states that WeatherKit location information is used only to provide weather forecasts, is not associated with personally identifiable information, and is not tracked between requests. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy. Apple Weather's required provider and data-source attribution is available from the Weather row at the end of QuestLog's Control Panel.

Apple's MapKit and geocoding services process location and place-search requests used to show nearby places, generate map snapshots, and provide readable location names. Apple's handling of that data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.

We review the published terms and privacy practices of service providers used by QuestLog and limit requests to the information needed to provide the selected feature. We do not authorize providers to use QuestLog requests for advertising or cross-app tracking.

SYSTEM INTEGRATIONS

When QuestLog's authentication lock is off, journal text may be indexed by iOS Spotlight so you can find entries in system search. Turning the authentication lock on removes QuestLog entries from Spotlight.

Optional "On This Day" notifications may show a short journal excerpt. When the authentication lock is on, these notifications use a generic message instead.

YOUR CONTROLS

Location, camera, notification, and Face ID access can be changed in the iOS Settings app. Access to a photo or file is granted only when you select that individual item in Apple's picker. QuestLog also provides controls for notifications, Spotlight indexing through the authentication-lock setting, and iCloud sync in its Control Panel. Because QuestLog does not operate user accounts or receive your journal, support cannot view or delete journal data on your behalf.

DATA RETENTION

Active entries and attachments remain until you delete them. Deleted entries stay in Recently Deleted for up to 30 days so you can restore them, after which their journal text and attachments are permanently removed. Small deletion records may remain temporarily to prevent another synced device from restoring deleted content. Manual backup files remain wherever you save them until you delete them.

Deleting QuestLog removes its local data but does not automatically remove a copy stored in your personal iCloud account. Before deleting the app, use Control Panel > iCloud Backup > Delete iCloud Data if you also want to remove the synced copy. You can also manage iCloud data through your device's iCloud settings.
